Otago Swim Coaching Academy Incorporated (OSCA) was formed in March 2006 to provide professional coaching for swimmers. OSCA is dedicated to the development of swimmers to compete at national and international levels.

Swimmers joining an OSCA Squad maintain their current club affiliation and represent their Clubs at all swim meets. OSCA is not a swim club, it is a coaching academy.

OSCA squads train daily at Moana Pool. OSCA has 4 squads targeted at various swimming levels.

  • A Squad
  • B Squad
  • C Squad
  • Surf and Triathlon Squad

OSCA’s coaching team is led by a superbly qualified international swimming coach Mr Gennadiy Labara who moved to Dunedin for lifestyle reasons and the opportunity to coach swimmers with the ability and desire to compete at the highest national and international level.

OSCA swimmers have broken 187 Otago records and 4 National records since Gennadiy's arrival.

11th August 2011 - Message from Swimming Otago

At the Delegates meeting in January Clubs were advised about the change in the FINA rules where races are now to be single gender races and that if record are to be broken then they need to be swum as single gender events. With some meets still being swum as mixed gender events it is necessary to advise Clubs of the requirements for breaking Otago records. The implementation of this matter was discussed at last nights Management Meeting and it was resolved that as from Sunday 14 August 2011 to break any of the current Otago records the swimmer must have swum the event as a single gender race.
